Theotokos means "God-bearer," the ancient title given to Mary as the Mother of God. In this image, known as the Theotokos of Tenderness, she holds the Christ Child close with her head bowed toward his. It is one of the most loved icons in the Christian tradition, a picture of both a mother's love and her quiet knowledge of what lies ahead for her son.

Each card is printed on premium textured cardstock and then finished by hand with gold-colored leaf and painted details that catch the light as the card moves. Because every card is embellished individually, no two are exactly alike.

A traditional prayer to the Theotokos is printed on the back. The card comes with a matching envelope, closed with a wax seal, so it arrives ready to give.
