ART THAT ILLUMINATES
I believe sacred art should bring light into a home. From a small studio on an island in Arctic Norway, I make hand-gilded icons and prayer cards one at a time, rooted in the Orthodox and Catholic traditions and made to be prayed with, given, and kept.

SACRED SYMBOLS: Why Icons Are Essential in Faith
For most of Christian history, few people could read. Icons were how the faith was taught, remembered and handed down: the Gospel in color and gold.
They have been called "windows into heaven". An icon is not meant to be admired like a painting in a gallery. It is meant to be prayed with. You stand in front of it, light a candle, and the face looking back reminds you that you are not praying alone.
That is why people keep them where life happens. In a corner of the living room, beside a child's bed, by the front door, on a desk. A small place in the home that is set apart for God.
Making one is an act of prayer too. Every icon that leaves my studio was cut, gilded and finished by my hand with that in mind.
